Poetry books to buy this year/"Plan P"

Well, let's call it Plan P shall we? Since it's generally agreed that poets are at the bottom of the "getting published" list, why not make an effort to seek out a female poet who has yet to snag a publishing contract and buy a copy of her chapbook? (Trust me, we all have them.) And then, at the other end of the scale, let's support Carol Ann Duffy, current Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom. Carol Ann Duffy's work is smart, sly, and sometimes brutal. My particular favorites come from The World's Wife (2005), but there are '09 collections as well.

great idea! it's so sad that ZERO poets are able to make a living by their craft alone. i will check out carol ann duffy for sure.

Yea! And you know what might be interesting is when we do buy chapbooks, we mention whether they were self-published or not. Chapbooks have a centuries old history as a highly honorable way to distribute poetry.
