-a baker
I try to think of writing in terms of how I work in the kitchen. With my baker's hat on, I try for crisp and short, not stale and soggy.
-a carpenter
I pick at my keyboard and with every word I try for a sharp, clean edge. I throw away any rusty old saws.
And I polish, sharpen, re-tool --and stay open to new precision equipment.
-a driver who sees her car as just a means to get somewhere.
I tell myself I need quick pick-up, easy handling, low fuel consumption. I don't want a sluggish, unresponsive fuel guzzler.
I want to give my readers the pleasure of visiting places they had not thought of in such a way that they arrive without any sense of fatigue and leave feeling like they have feasted.
A baker, a carpenter, an earth-friendly driver: friends on my journey as a writer.
