You are already a writer. You just need to start writing. This is the main takeaway from blogger Jeff Goins‘ new ebook release, You Are A Writer.
This is not a book for those who already considers themselves professional writers. This is a book for people who wish they were writers, but don’t feel they qualify. Or who are afraid to take that first step. As a professional marketing writer, blogger, and former magazine reporter/editor, I found the first segment of the book to be very basic, and Goins’ personal storytelling approach started to feel a little motivational-soapboxy.
Then, all of a sudden, I was taking notes on my hand to get something down before I lost it. It was that exciting. I could not wait to cross my apartment to find paper, I had to get it down NOW.
Halfway through, the book shifts toward more hard-hitting practical information more relevant to serious writers trying to make a bigger dent in cyberspace. Some good meaty advice you can really sink your teeth into.
And it’s advice from a good source too–Goins is an experienced reporter and published author. He has built a great platform from his blog, Goins, Writer. This is a guy who knows his stuff. And now he’s sharing what’s gotten him there, and the lessons he’s learned from the mistakes he’s made along the way.
You Are A Writer serves up a tall pile of inspiration for beginning writers. Along with it, readers will gain concrete information about building an online platform, pitching magazines, and building a writing career.
Goins’ message isn’t really a new one, but it’s certainly an important one. You already have everything you need to start working toward your dream of being a writer. All you have to do is start writing.
You Are A Writer is expected to release this week. I will update with a link to the book’s website at that time.
