One of the things that motivated me to start writing was the idea of self-publishing, which is essentially publishing something on your own without having to go through a company publisher. Amazon's self-publishing service CreateSpace was what really grabbed my attention more than anything else. I knew about self-publishing, but it sounded like a lot of confusing work for someone who isn't that great at planning in the first place. [Of course, at this point, I'm obligated to point out that God can help with this, and I often forget that He wants to.]
While I still want to keep CreateSpace in mind in case other official publishers fall through, I'm starting to wonder if it would be better from an advertisement point of view to at least try to get an official publisher.
Keep in mind that I'm still in the beginning stages of all this. I have never actually sent anything off to be published, and am actually fairly frightened of letting go and doing it. The idea of my words, my voice, going out into the world via a medium I don't have 100% control over is frightening to say the least.
Here's to praying that fear doesn't keep a good writer down, and that it is indeed God's will for this talent to go somewhere!
