Have you thought of time as one of your resources? Last week, I wished my Facebook friends and family a Happy Easter, in whatever way they chose to spend it. The words were no sooner typed on the screen and sent when a little voice told me to think about the word “spend” in association with the concept of time. Except for the old adage “time is money,” I never really thought about listing time among my spendable resources.
Thinking of time as money is not at all an appealing concept to me. However, thinking of time as one of my most valuable resources is not only appealing but necessary to the way I want to live my life. If I don’t choose to waste money, why would I choose to waste time? That question gives rise to the next. How do I define wasting time? Am I implying the need to be working throughout every waking hour of my days? Absolutely not! The time is now to ask myself if I invested my time wisely each day, spending some of it on work, a portion on exercise, taking some for meditation or another form of self-reflection, budgeting time into my day for writing or something else that nurtures and fulfills me. Each of us has the same number of hours every day. How will you spend yours?
