It takes a village to be a successful writer these days. With publishing houses struggling to provide authors with the support they need, the burden to do the thousand and one things it takes to make it (in addition to, you know,
writing) now falls on us. But in true She Writes spirit, we need not be alone. A room of her own just got bigger—and we are filling it up with people who can help you make your writing life easier, more efficient, and yes, more fun.
Introducing the new, improved She Writes Blog. Following on the heels of
She Writes Services, our newly launched consulting arm, we bring you news and views—along with how to’s—from some of the foremost thinkers in publishing and writing today. With so many changes afoot in the publishing industry, and in the very appellation of “writer”, we want to help you figure out which way is up, in no small part because we’re trying to figure that out, too.
So in addition to the “old” (ha, we’re 9 months old!) standbys like
“Five Questions with…” and “Countdown to Publication,” we’ll be introducing a column called “How She Did It,” in which a SW member, often a consultant, shares her savvy for the good of all. We’re also adding daily features from some movers and shakers worth following:
• On Mondays, watch for
Erin Hosier (
THE AGENT), the literary agent provocateur previously known here for her “Cover Girl” posts as she reports from the inside of the publishing biz.
• On Wednesdays, follow
Mia Eaton (
THE TECHIE), that rare find, a writer/web developer hybrid, as she shares her experience and presentience (it means knowing the future before it happens—we looked it up!) on web, digital publishing, and social media concerns.
• On Thursdays, SW founder
Kamy Wicoff shares thoughts on the emerging intersection between creativity and community (
THE SALONNIERE).
• On Fridays, follow authorpreneur
Miriam Peskowitz (
THE WRITER-ENTREPRENEUR), as she asks whether the business side can be creative too.
• And also on Fridays, look for my contribution,
SHE WRITES ON FRIDAYS, in which I explore questions of craft and process and ask others to do the same.
Once a month, keep an eye out for a column from journalist
Sarah Glazer, who has been with us from the start, called
STATE OF THE ART.
We're still looking for someone inside commercial publishing to write
THE EDITOR column. If you know an editor with an opinion worth sharing, please do tell her to get in touch (deborah@shewrites.com). And we have a few more surprises in store as well.
In response to popular request, we are adding space for a community blog on the mainpage, so that we can feature more of your posts. And to empower
you to decide what goes in that space, we’re featuring there the posts that are “Most Popular” (meaning most trafficked).
As always, we welcome your feedback and your comments as we go!
