His name is Benjamin Péret and he was one of the original Surrealists.   Translating him was like trying to catch a wild creature--he was quick, he was changeable, and he mocked me.   But after a few years, I got to know him and he started whispering in my ear.   That's where a translator wants to be!

 

The book is The Big Game (Le grand jeu), the publisher is Black Widow Press, and it came out in 2011, just a few weeks ago.

My new baby has big ears (see the cover photo by Man Ray), but his French is damned good!  Hope you'll check it out on Amazon or at Black Widow Press.
