Here in the Uk (where we eat chips with fish, and tomato ketchup) research has come up with the alarming stat that we now text more than we talk. I'm guessing that it's the same where you live. I am appalled. What is happening to civilization?

We seem to be heading backwards. How can you get to know someone without chatting (preferably with coffee and cake on the side)? Texting is not a substitute for a relationship - unless you're one of my students, in which case, it soo is. Soon, some reductive person will bring out texted versions of books. Then we won't have to bother engaging with the characters, we can just get the bare bones: P&P bi Jn Ostn. I despair, I really do.

So here's the thing. Until we lose the power of speech, descend into some vowel-less grunt-state and move into caves, let's talk. I'm up for it. You?
