What She’s Reading Now – Newser Edition

Deborah Siegel shares highlights from her RSS feeds, inbox, and more. What's in YOUR feed, She Writers?

I have yet to finish the novel that’s been sitting on my nightstand for the past four months (Katheryn Stockett’s The Help). I’m two months behind in What to Expect: The Toddler Years. But last month my twins turned one and the milestone created slightly more bandwidth in my brain for online reading. Yes I’m starting to read again, and regularly, in “my field.” Here’s what’s on my radar of late:

Publisher’s Weekly - Memoirs Dominate an Up Black Friday at Indies (good news for all you memoir writers out there!)

The New York Times 100 Notable Books 2010 (Congrats to She Writer Bethany McClean, plus soon-to-join-us She Writers Rebecca Traister and Annie Murphy Paul, all of whom are on The List)

National Book Award Winners 2010 (wonderfully evenly split along gender lines - hooray)

Babble - Top 50 Mom Blogs – Best Written category (Congrats to PunditMom for being on the general list! Huzzah!)

GalleyCat - Best Novels of 2010: A Literary Mixtape (this is just very cool)

Feministing – Not Oprah’s Book Club: Traveling with Pomegranates (Courtney Martin’s review of the book co-authored by mother and daughter team Sue Monk Kidd and Ann Kidd Taylor)

Bitch – Adventures in Feministory: Nella Larsen (because I love all things Nella)

NaNoWriMo’s Facebook page – Share Your Final Sentence! (because even though I didn't do it, I’m feeling relieved, along with all many actual SheWriMos, those who hit it and those who did not, that NaNo ends today)

Got a link you think fellow She Writers should be checking out this week? Post it in comments -- please share!

Well, it may not be a blockbuster, but I run a Facebook group for people (mainly of faith) who work out or need encouragement to work out. It's called Workout Warriors - STOPP! Move a Mountain! I send out messages as I can to all the members with encouragement, working out tips, my own lamentations, prayer requests and praise reports, etc. for those we put our energy toward - they seem to really like it even though it's been a small group starting out. I am just now starting it back up after a bit of a "pause" this year due to personal circumstances.

Guerilla Marketing with technology is great so far. It's geared toward small businesses. Isn't that what writers really are, small businesses? It sure feels that way most of the time. Anyway, I'm getting some great ideas from this book and thought I'd share with everyone:)

I invite all to visit my blog (with my grown daughters) and let us know what you think on the topic of how moms should best teach their daughters about beauty. The balancing act of ego and confidence, of inner and outer beauty, and of aging gracefully or kicking and screaming. Tell us what you believe!
