Little people take a stand against the offensive word -- and a world that thinks it's OK to mock them

Thanks, Tina! And yes, Cristina, I'm sure Kiki will love it when you are able to make time! :)

Hey Lynn,

I didn't see your response until today. Yes, we have been involved with LPA, but not as active as I'd like. We just have so much going on. I'm hoping to be more involved in the coming year. Kiki is older now and wanting to meet more LP kids.

Great article! I am not a fan of the "Donald" and I had not even heard about this episode until today. You can bet if it involved a race, religion, etc. there would be an outcry.

My son is mentally disabled so you can imagine my love of the "R" word. As many times as I have made it clear this word hurts me, family and friends continue to think I'm "over" it. In fact, the "R" word popped up on my FB wall today. Nice!

Thanks for the article, Lynn. I think anytime we can remind the public that words have MEANING (hello!), maybe something will, eventually, change.

Wow, Cristina, glad to hear from you. Thanks very much. Are you guys involved with LPA?

That is so ironic. I didn't know you were here, Lynn. Here is my blog linking local readers to your article http://www.tecumsehherald.com/node/2084. I loved your article. My daughter has Kniest syndrome, a rare form of dwarfism. She's approaching her teenage years, which are difficult anyway, but she's more aware of her self-image now and that article brings to light a lot of what she deals with right now. It's strange how I never thought people would stare at her, but they do all the time.

Thanks, Claire. And yah, really amazing how defensive people get. I AM SORRY, IT IS TOO CHALLENGING FOR ME FROM MY POSITION OF PRIVILEGE TO USE A DIFFERENT WORD TO DESCRIBE YOU. Man.

Great article, Lynn. I especially love the quotes from Mark Povinelli.
