I want to tell you about a new series of posts that Matilda Butler and I created for Women's Memoirs. It's called "Writing in Five: Quick Tips," and it's our way of kicking off the count down to our very popular Writing Alchemy class.

At least once a week we'll be posting a brief audio conversation (only about five minutes) discussing some interesting tip, technique, philosophy or approach to writing. But these aren't just any tips...we're scouring the books about writing by some of the greatest writers of our time. We'll only present from the best. In Quick Tip #1, Matilda and I discuss a grammatical pet peeve of Stephen King's.

The format of each audio post will be the same:
1) We'll start by introducing the author and his/her advice. We'll read a short blurb from the author's writing book. (In the case of Stephen King, we're discussing On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft.)
2) Matilda and I will discuss the tip.
3) We'll end with an example.

It's that simple.

So what's this kick off for Writing Alchemy?
Let me answer that question with a question: What if we could help you gain more control over your writing than ever before? Is that a class you'd be interested in? Well, that's the basis for Writing Alchemy. It’s not just another technique, but a method, a process…a tool to help writers pull the richness out of your scenes. And Writing Alchemy: Quick-Start Method is a way to get you started using our method immediately. We've taught this class twice--both to sold-out audiences--and our students have told us that Writing Alchemy has stimulated their creativity in ways they never dreamed possible.

We invite you to join us April 1 for Writing Alchemy: The Quick-Start Method. In just three sessions, we’ll put you in control of your writing. Here's the link to Story Circle Network and a description of the course.

Enjoy our "Writing in Five--Quick Tips," and I hope we'll see you in class!
