Day 1 on She Writes. First step into being a more disciplined writer. I have been published a lot in magazines and my poetry is featured in an anthology. But my manuscript (fiction) and poetry (have at least a chapbook)...lie trapped in between pixels and memory on my hard drive.
I am the type of writer that gets inspired everywhere, scribbles on paper..they get put in drawers or pockets...and I am sure I have lost so many beginnings without ever getting to the end.
So many writings also lost on broken computers. Like moments in the sun lost forever. I think it is like I am a painter or graffiti artist who expresses themselves just to express themselves. It is like breathing or eating or sleeping. But then I know that this is not doing justice to the germs of growth just waiting there. It is like I already have the manuscript all finished in my head. It already exists, I have so much of it already. It just needs to be coxed out and wooed to the surface. Like Michaelangelo (I think it was), who said that for him, the statues he created already existed within the marble he was carving, he just had to reveal it and clear away the clutter.
I hope this space will help clear away the substrate of missing discipline. That it will help me reveal what lies beneath. The journey of a thousand miles begins...
