Hi Marilyn,

I am enjoying your writing exercises...love the Obsession Notebook concept. I use something similar for blogging, but call it a synchronicity and blog seed journal. Good to connect. Will look for your other message now.

Hey Marilyn,

You're so welcome--let's compare notes down the line after you finish Spending!

Hi Marilyn,

My writing teacher told me about this wonderful book--I'm thinking of using it in my women and creativity class and thought you might know of it, or be interested:

Spending by Mary Gordon, a man approaches a relatively famous female painter and says "I'll be your muse and give you everything that you say women artists need to thrive." Incredible premise and great commentary about the lives of working female artists.

I've just started it and it is spellbinding. I knew of Mary Gordon, but have never read any of her works before now.

Best,

Michele

Hi Marilyn,

I just left a comment about your recent post on Virginia Woolf and women killing their "angels". Great post and I enjoyed looking at your website.

Thanks for the link, Marilyn. Interesting to hear about that AWP panel; did you go to it? Seems we could propose something that takes off from where they left off.

Hi Marilyn, I have some ideas but am not wedded to them. Thinking something about the difficulties of writing about our own experiences mothering, particularly writing about our own children - how to get the distance not to portray them too idealistically, as mothers are apt to do (or too critically, which can also be common). Sounds like you have been to some at AWP recently. Would love to hear your ideas for a panel as well.

Hey, I'd love for you to use some of that for our next SubMiss chat in a few weeks. I'm pulling out a few sources on rejection-- giving and taking it. Share some of your work on it. The ladies will love it!

Cheers.

Welcome to Submission Mission. This group has been immeasurably helpful to me. We have monthly online chats in which we share info and ask for advice about submitting our work. I cannot recommend it enough.

Thought I'd share a few resources I've discovered through SheWrites and Submission Mission:

I write personal essays but am working into travel essays too. An essay I just submitted to a few lit pubs is about unexpectedly wearing a burqa in an orthodox Muslim neighborhood in India. Presently I'm working on composing a few different essays about a neighborhood I love and the people in it in Lima, Peru.
