I did a lot of outdoor stuff as well while I was there: hiking, backpacking, swimming, canoeing, etc. Here in CA, I find the heat slows me much more. But I did love the coffeehouse culture of the NW. I think I would love it even more now that I am writing.
I think the Northwest would be a great place to live as a writer. The weather keeps you in to write much of the time and the coffeehouses are wonderful for people watching.
So nice to connect with you here. I love Athens and it's always great to find people who have lived there and have a fondness for it, too. And thank you so much for your kind words about my blog.
Julie, We're delighted to have you join us in the novelist group! If you haven’t done so already, you might introduce yourself by telling us what you’re working on in the “Show Me Your Novel and I’ll Show You Mine” discussion. We do a live chat Wednesdays at 1 EST, with instructions on how to participate in the "Our Water Cooler" box near the top of the group page. And we save the wall for discussion, but welcome links to helpful blog posts on the “Links to Helpful Blog Posts for Writers” discussion thread and to published books in the “Our Published Novels” one. I hope you’ll enjoy the group.

I lived in Seattle for 8 years and loved it. Now I'm in CA, but may move back north when I retire.
Julie!
