Hi Phoebe, re the pre-pub reviews--generally the publicist sends out the ARCs well in advance and it's still very hard to get reviewed. I'm lucky this time but my last novel wasn't reviewed at all by Kirkus and only got the online PW after publication date and the Library Journal about six weeks after pub date. So all I can do is be very grateful that it worked this time around! As an individual author you can't do much to influence it--it's down to your publicist's/publisher's tenacity.
