Hi Rebecca, Thanks so much for your comments on the Five Questions feature I did with Diana Gittins and your kind words about the memoir. Your novel sounds amazing. I can't wait to read it. Very best, Zoe
I graduated eons ago (1999). Went right out of college. My thesis adviser was John Edgar Wideman, though I worked a lot with Noy Holland too. A good program.
Thanks again. My editor, Amy Einhorn, just posted the announcement in Publisher's Lunch, so I can stop pinching myself, it is finally 'legit.'
Your website rocks-- definitely a model for the rest of us. Great synopsis, nice interplay with the writer's personality and thoughts, and there's a gentleness and touch of beauty that stays in the mind. That and your video are some of the best I have seen.
She Writes is awesome, to allow these conversations.
Hope all continues to go well until Spring 2011!

Rebecca,
Thanks so much! How did you hear about my book deal? I've been afraid to say much about it, superstitious gal that I am. But it becomes more and more real every day. And exciting.
Your The Bird Sisters video is GORGEOUS. I will definitely keep an eye out for it. Congratulations and I look forward to reading your work.
I am so happy. I just figured out how to hyperlink my website. I know too many tech folks and they all said www. isn't necessary anymore. But apparently it is! Yippee. Oh, and Rebecca, the James River Writer folks in Richmond are hosting my editor and our agent here in Richmond on April 29th. I'm very excited. We're going to do a three-person panel. And, on a very different note: HOME: I love my home NOW. When I was growing up, home was what I had, but it wasn't ever what I really wanted. I don't know. I wanted what I now have. I love my husband and son and I've been able to make what I think "home" should be. Lord knows what my son will think in the years to come.
I went to The Bird Sisters website and read your explanation of what lies behind the book. The question of "home" is a loaded one for me, too. For people in general, there is hardly any such thing anymore. I grew up during the last decades (thirties and forties) when many people kept one job and lived one place most of their lives, so I have watched this change evolve. I think the need for roots, for a place we love as home, is deeply programmed into us. And contemporary lifestyles don't allow for its fulfillment. Hmmm. I'm on a jag here. I think I'll stop now and write a blog about this. Stay tuned.
I know what you mean Rebecca, but if you're truly interested, start off slow...Maybe a 5k--10k---and so forth working your way up to 1/2. Before you know it "Poof" you'll find yourself doing the full 26.2... :-) I'd love to add this to my list of accomplishments...Enjoy the rest of your morning!
"Wow" that is Fantastic Rebecca! "Congratulations" to your Brother ...My youngest Daughter is a Marathon runner also and ran the Rock N Roll Marathon a few months back...It is such a HUGE accomplishment!

Naturewriting.com is an online magazine only, but one that allows you to read essays and poetry about its general topic. I always enjoy reading about what others are perceiving and what aspects of nature writing interest them.…"
