Passing along some tips & resources for fellow expats/travel writers interested in getting their stories published:

I'm happy to share a list of almost 100 resources + tips from a talk I gave last week at the Japan Writers Conference on bringing out a book, comparing my experience publishing with a Big Five press versus that of my co-presenter, the award-winning poet Jessica Goodfellow, who has brought out books with various small and indie presses.

We talked about what we learned from our own recent book publication journeys, covering ways of making necessary industry contacts (including agents and publishers), connecting with potential readers, types of publishing models prevalent in different genres, and more.

One other topic we discussed: the importance of supporting other writers. In the spirit of this camaraderie, please feel free to get in touch if you’re interested in our list of resources and tips that we handed out about increasing your chances of getting noticed by presses big and small. There’s a private, protected form you can use to contact me here, and I’ll be happy to send them along: http://www.tracyslater.com/contact/

    Thanks, Tracy!

If anyone would like my booklet on 10 Tips to a Killer Logline, you can pick it up for free at http://PitchingPerfectly.com

Meanwhile, I received your tips and they are awesome. I absolutely agree with the recommendation for Publishers Marketplace - I subscribed because I'm on the agent hunt for my novel, but I've been loving the daily e-mails, with deals and news. So informative.

    Thanks again!

Hi Laura. Yes to all! And feel free to post a link to your site here. Perhaps others who see this would appreciate your info, too. Looking forward to staying connected...

Tracy, how very generous of you! I'll happily fill out the form. Also, if you're not using the resource giveaway to build your own e-mail list, you might want to consider doing that. Message me if you want links on how to do it -- it's a big topic in the indie world and I've been doing it with my business website, with a giveaway on how to write a killer logline.

Meanwhile, I would be delighted to be on your e-mail list if you are building one, and also let me know if you'd like me to mention your giveaway in my e-mail newsletter to my list. There aren't very many travel writers (mostly screenwriters and novelists) on my list, but you might pick up a couple of followers.

It's all about connecting! And for you to connect in such a generous way - thank you for that.

    Best - Laura
