This weekend is a special weekend for my husband. For the past thirty years, he and two of his friends spend at least one weekend, sometimes a week, in the "great outdoors." They always travel to a different spot and have even gone as far as the Boundary Waters in Canada. Yes, this is their weekend to do some "male bonding," as I like to call it.

I don't begrudge him this time away. He works hard and I think he deserves some time to get away and have some fun with his friends. These guys have been good buddies for a lifetime and each Saturday they get together and work out at a local gym. As a matter of fact, they are all named Mike. How's that for having something in common?

No, I don't mind that he leaves me behind while goes on these outings. As a matter of fact, you could say that there have been times when I have enjoyed these moments of solitude. It also gives me a chance to do some things I might not do otherwise and spend time with the other people in my life who are important to me.

And this weekend I am spending the time with my oldest daughter, Sarah. We're going to have what she terms as a "Girls' Weekend." She's a new bride, but since her husband is working the second shift, she thought she'd spend it with me.

I love it when Sarah and I spend these weekends together. She has a bubbly, cheerful, and outgoing personality, and when she's around, I never get bored. The last time she was here for an overnight stay, we had planned to watch a movie, but before we knew it, we had talked the entire evening away, and the movie was forgotten. And there's always plenty of laughter, sometimes to the point of tears running down my cheeks.

But the best part is just being together. It's the mother-daughter closeness that I look forward to the most. Whether we're sitting at the kitchen table sharing a cup of coffee or taking a walk with with our little dog Lucy, just being with each other and sharing time together is all that I need to make my weekend the best weekend ever.

I can hardly wait.
