One of the things I find self-publishing authors are most surprised by (besides the financial investment) is the necessary timeframe to produce a book of excellence. So here's the skinny:
As a general guideline, once the manuscript is finished—depending on the level of editing it needs, the complexity of the interior layout, and the time it takes to achieve the right cover design—six months is a realistic time frame for most books.
Seem like a long time?

Don't even consider rushing your book's production—give it the time and attention it deserves from one or more professionals from cover to cover (or submit your manuscript to a partnership publisher like She Writes for consideration).
