Alix has no idea her world is about to be shattered—again. She has no past, only today and her plans for the future: raising a dynamic string of racehorses poised to take the 1830s British racing world by storm.

Then Lily, Alix’s estranged twin sister, forces Alix into a position that will drastically alter the course of her life. Raised separately, spoiled and ruthless, Lily carelessly marries Lord Nicholas Griffon for his money and social standing, but when she discovers she is expecting a child—the result of her most recent affair—she concocts a complex scheme to change places with Alix until arrangements for the infant’s care can be made.

While Alix is trapped in Lily’s role, Nicholas grows increasingly suspicious of her—and she begins to have nightmares about the past she has forgotten. Desperate to unravel the mystery, she finally seeks the aid of her wrathful uncle, Quenton. Her visit sends him on a quest to reclaim their former lives in France—but not before she can cast of the mantle of her sister’s identity and vanish.

Growing up in the Salinas Valley in the shadow of creative giants like John Steinbeck and Alfred Hitchcock, Diane’s father inspired her to write before she could even read. She still lives in Central California, and has written After Midnight for her children and grandchildren, hoping to inspire a future generation of literary art.
