Have you ever read a book with a scene so intense it made you pause to take it in, read it again and smile at the thought? Just like a firework show, a unique moment where nothing else seems to matter, a love story between two memorable characters will leave you captivated, wanting more.

In honor of Fourth of July, here’s our literary firework show- a list of 5 books whose characters sparks for one other colorfully exploded off the page and into our hearts.

The History of Love by Nicole Krauss

“Once upon a time there was a boy who loved a girl, and her laughter was a question he wanted to spend his whole life answering.”

A beautifully written love story by Nicole Krauss about a man who spends his entire life reminiscing about the woman he loved and the book that brought them back together. The reader follows not only his story, but also the stories of others whose lives are unknowingly affected by this book as well. The author beautifully intertwines these individual stories, creating what has been called, one of the most loved novels of the decade.

 Beautiful Disaster by Jaimie McGuire

“I loved him, and no matter what my reasons were to live without him, I knew it wasn’t what I wanted. Even if I hadn’t changed my mind, it was impossible for us to stay away from each other.”

The story of Travis Madix and Abby Abernathy is the perfect combination of heated passion and genuine love. Jamie McGuire brings us an in-depth look of an old favorite, bad boy/good girl love story, however it is the intensity found in the love between Abby and Travis that sets this story apart from others like it. Both Abby and Travis’s strong willed characteristic create an explosion of love and passion that will leave you envious of their relationship and rushing to read the sequel.

Thoughtless by S.C Stephens

“‘I want you and only you and I can’t bear the thought of sharing you. I’m sorry.’ He looked down sadly. ‘I want to be with you in the right way – in the open. I want to walk into Pete’s with you on my arm. I want to kiss you every time I see you, no matter who’s looking. I want to make love to you without fear of someone finding out. I want to fall asleep with you in my arms every night. I don’t want to feel guilty about something that makes me feel so…whole. I ‘m sorry, Keira, but I’m asking you to choose.’"

What happens when the person you thought you loved ends up becoming the person standing in your way of someone new? When Kiera moves to Seattle for the love of her life, she soon finds herself in a love triangle with their new roommate and old friend, Kellan Kyle. The first in the trilogy, Thoughtless depicts the outcome of true love that is tested with the desire of something new and different. Will Kiera stay with her long time love or will she leave him for someone she just met? The answer will shock you.

I Wrote This For You by Anonymous

“So may you find in each other what you came here for. And trust that this is love because it is (love is trust). And tangled lives you may lead but into each other, never apart, till you cannot distinguish between being and being together.”

What began as an anonymous blog, has since become one of the most memorable—not to mention quotable—love stories of our time. I Wrote This For You is a collection of poems and photography so unique in its beauty that it will leave you unable to put it down. Each thought provoking piece transcends from words on a page to a well crafted poetic love story.

The Lovers Dictionary by David Levithan

What’s so special about this novel, is the way the story is presented. Instead of choosing to write out a typical novel, Levithan tells his story in dictionary form. Using words in alphabetical order to title each piece, the story is broken up, giving the reader snippets of the relationship. The good, the bad and the unpredictable moments that collectively define love, this novel is unlike any love story you have ever read and will captivate you with how effortlessly relatable it is.
