What It’s Like To Be A Woman Who Sells Luxury Sex Toys

Hello … my name is Stacy, and I sell luxury sex toys.

Why would a nice girl get into the sex toy business? Perhaps a better question is why wouldn’t a nice girl get into this business? After all, sex always sells.

Mothers around the world want their daughters to grow up to be doctors, lawyers and accountants. Why isn’t adult industry entrepreneurs on that list? These days, women are not only performers, but some are also studio executives, sex toy manufacturers, distributors, storeowners, and in my case, Internet eCommerce trailblazers.

It all started when one Saturday evening my husband and I took a walk through Greenwich Village after dinner. We found ourselves in front of a sex shop. My husband and I are not terribly adventurous or particularly kinky. However, we are open to new ideas and make an effort to keep our marriage fun and exciting. Our goal when we walked into that store was mostly curiosity.

I admit, walking into a crowded sex shop in NYC on a Saturday night may not be the smartest thing to do.  What we saw left us feeling embarrassed and dirty - and not in a good way. I realized there had to be a better way to learn about adult products and inspire romance.

I believe that sex is not shameful or obscene. As long as sexual desire is controlled and mutual between two partners then it is not shameful.

When I got home, I went online and struggled to find an online store that could offer the kind of products and experience that people like us would like.  The rest is history, and My Secret Luxury was born. I started the business to deliver a luxurious, sophisticated, and discreet experience.

Everyone deserves to experience romance, passion, and pleasure.  If a romantic scented candle helps heighten the mood, then great.  If being dominated makes your toes tingle, then good for you.  If a discreet vibrator makes it easier for you to reach orgasm, then all the power to you!

Pleasure is a birthright and everyone deserves to have it. (Fact: only about 25% of women orgasm during sex with a partner and require clitoral stimulation to orgasm.) I started My Secret Luxury because I believe that it is important for men and women to learn about pleasure, discover innovative products, and shop in a secure environment where they can feel comfortable.

My mother loves to tell her friends about my business and is proud of her daughter who is helping stimulate the next sexual revolution.  (She is the most popular person in her retirement community!) I like to think that in some small way, I continue the tradition of those pioneers who sparked the sexual revolution of the 1960s.

I am also a mother who will teach her boys the same valuable lessons about love and relationships.   My boys are too young to know about or understand my business.  One day… I will tell them what I do.  Is what I do any “dirtier” than what a gynecologist or sex therapist does for a living?

There may be a chance my boys will find mom’s business embarrassing. However, we live in an age where kids are having pre-marital sex in increasing numbers and STDs in high schools are reaching near-epidemic numbers.  My business offers me a platform to have a mature and open discussion with them.  I will teach them that sex is reserved for consenting adults.  I will teach them that sex is not a dirty activity, and it is ok to masturbate.

Of course, everyone in my town knows what I do for a living. People talk, but I don’t care. All of us have and enjoy sex, and if you don’t, something is wrong with you!

I never expected to sell sex toys.  I fell into this industry on that Saturday night in Greenwich Village.  However, I am not ashamed or embarrassed to be in this industry.  In fact, I feel that there is something noble about inspiring romance, facilitating love, and increasing pleasure.

My job is to make sure people have the tools they need to experience pleasure.  Their orgasm should thank me!
