Angela threw her bag down and burst into tears. “He made me do it!” she cried. “You don’t know how…persuasive…he is…”

Joanna’s eyes widened as she bent down to pick up the bag. Inside were now broken bottles of beer, the putrid scent stinging her nose. “When did…how did…”

Angela took a shallow breath and handed her sister a fake ID. “He got it for me. He told me…he would kill me if I didn’t…but then…smiled…you know that smile…and I thought…he was joking…but I did it…he would reward me…after…but it hurt…” she sobbed.

Joanna sighed. “How long has this been going on?”

Angela shook as she answered, “Two years,” with tears streaming down her cheeks.

Her sister shook her head, holding her sister close. “It’s okay. Shh, shh, it’s okay.”

Angela pulled away, whispering a barely-audible, “There’s something else, too.”

Joanna nodded and asked, “What is it?”

Angela turned away and held her stomach with a sad little smile across her lips. “I’m pregnant,” the 16-year-old mumbled.
