Meet the She Writes Press team!

Thank you all so much for your support and warm words of encouragement last week around the launch of the press—and for your good questions. We welcome the dialogue!

Today I want to introduce you to our team. You all know Kamy Wicoff, our passionate and talented founder. I want to extend a personal thank you to her for her creativity and dedication to women writers, and for partnering with me in this venture. As the publisher of She Writes Press, I bring thirteen years in the publishing industry, most recently at Seal Press, where I’ve been championing women writers for the past seven-and-a-half years. We invite you to read more about our mission and our inspiration.

Kamy and I are over the moon about the team we’ve put together. These are women who love books, writers, and words as much as we do. Like us, they get the need for women to have their own dedicated spaces in this market and in this industry, and they’re as excited as we are about the future of publishing and how SWP will participate in shaping it. We are grateful for their contributions so far, and for their enthusiasm and dedication to what we’re creating.

Here’s our team!

Krissa Lagos is our managing editor. Krissa, too, comes out of traditional book publishing. Prior to her time working in the trenches as an editor and marketing associate, she obtained her English degree from U.C. Berkeley. She brings her dual sensibility as both an editor and marketer to her work here at She Writes Press, and she will be managing the blog and newsletters moving forward.

Caitlyn Levin, our community manager, is a graduate from Barnard College with a degree in English Literature and a concentration in creative writing. She has been an invaluable asset to She, especially during Kamy’s sabbatical, liaisoning with the community and managing the blog and social media! I couldn’t be more thrilled that she’s decided to stay on with us in the capacity of community manager.

Kristina Miltenberger, our social media manager, recently completed her MFA degree in Creative Writing at Mills College. Prior to that she had a career in communications and marketing. Her true love is writing, however, and she’s working on her first novel, Look Away, a coming-of-age romance set in the South at the dawn of the Civil War.

If you’re active on the site, you’ll be seeing these women’s names pop up, and I hope you’ll take the time to read their full bios.

In addition to our core team, we have a distribution team, based in Washington State, who will be backing us on the production and distribution. This team includes Randy Kuckuck, Kiran Spees, Trey Schorr, and Trudy Catterfeld.

We will also be bringing on coaches and editors for those authors whose submissions qualify them for Track 2 or Track 3. (Read more on this.) I’m currently in conversation with these trusted partners about the scope of work they’ll be taking on, and their bios will be up on the site next week. Finally, we have our Experts for Hire, an extension of our team. These experts will be offering all kinds of services, from marketing to publicity to special services like blog tours and other educational tools to help our authors.

Thanks again to all of you. The She Writes Press team looks forward to serving you in any way we can, whether you engage with us as a SWP author, or whether you're looking for editorial support, advice on building your platform, or marketing solutions for an existing book you're promoting.

My submission was sent last night (and my $25) -- do you guys respond with a "received" message? Or, do I just wait to hear from you to see if you want the whole ms? Thanks!

  • Karoline Barrett

Thanks Brooke! Will send in my submission later this afternoon!

  • @Karoline, you can publish whenever you are ready. We are working on the authors' timelines, not our own. If you're in a hurry we can accommodate you, and if you want to take your time then that's perfect, too!
