Life has a funny way of slowing down just when I need it to slow up a bit for me. I haven't been on my current job for a year yet, but it's pretty close. I'm ready for a vacation, and I have two weeks that I need to take or I lose them.
Vacation
This week, I took off. Today (even though I went in to get some things done) through Friday I am officially not required to be in the office. I'm celebrating by being a couch potato as much as possible.
I have one engagement on Friday, and all around that, before and after, I will be keeping to my plan at every turn. I have books to study, reading for my bible study class, and fun reading loaded on my NOOK.
Website Hosting Changes
Lately, nearing this close of my first year, I am working to get back into balance so that I can pull in my writing again. I have let it slip away from me a lot, in favor of all the activity on my job, and my website changes that I've put in place after serious contemplation and research.
More Writing
I have done more writing at work and in my journal, but blogging is what I've missed. So, this month I've increased my writing at one of my blogs. After this one, I'll get back to the work blogs and finally the poetry, (the next easiest to return to).
Journal Writing
The blog that I got busy on this month is blog about it, my journal blog where I write whatever interests me, in hopes that someone else might find them useful or entertaining. I still keep a handwritten journal. But, I like the journal type entries online as well.
I write for work, and for my church. Included in the church stuff is Facebook and Twitter posting, which reminds me of journaling. I always said that these things helped me to write better and I believe it. But my own insecurities and doubts keep me from posting more on my personal site. (Sometimes I think no one really wants to hear from me, and that's enough to put me off the action.)
What's new with that is that I'm working to change my self-talk. After all, there must be someone who wants to hear from me. I use this argument to encourage myself to continue saying things online.
Reading for Writing
I've been reading more since I got my NOOK (books travel a lot better). Since I read slowly, every little bit helps. I'm considering setting a reading challenge for myself spanning the end of this year. I'll blog about each as I finish them, so that, hopefully, my book review acumen will improve.
I have a thing where I decided to write about 10 Things on any topic. These are the main two areas where I've increased my posting, for now, with more to come.
Challenge Writing
I've found a creative writing challenge that has no time limit, you contribute any time. I would like to write a short story, so I'm hoping to write a short piece to submit.
There's no telling if I'll finish a longer fiction I started last year. But that can wait. Baby steps. I will do it as it returns to me, for now. Next year, lucky 13, I will push to get through more stringent goals if I can. In the meantime, I'll continue reading and other writing to encourage (read fortify) my resolve.
So that's me, all up to speed here. Now to read what others are up to.
