"Happiness is possible when you are capable of doing the things and being the things you want to do and to be. When we walk for the sake of walking, when we sit for the sake of sitting, when we drink for the sake of drinking tea, we don’t do it for something or someone else. Awakening means to see that truth—that you want to know how to enjoy, how to live deeply, in a very simple way. You don’t want to waste your time anymore. Cherish the time that you are given."

~Thich Nhat Hanh

Walk for the sake of walking. Drink tea for the sake of drinking tea. Write for the sake of writing. Who'd have thought the secret to happiness would be so simple?

I hope you find a way to enjoy being a writer during 2012. It's not always easy. But we have a wonderful opportunity, as writers, to becoming intimate with the world and to share what we find with other people. We have a wonderful opportunity to cherish the time we are given.

From my window I can see white foxgloves with deep scarlet stains in their throats, and campanula the colour of the prettiest lilac summer dress you've ever seen.

Look at flowers for the sake of looking at flowers.

    Hey Fiona,

Thanks for Eric's link. He was a wonderful teacher (I studied with him 2003-2004), and is just brilliant in a quiet and thoughtful way. OK, I'm off to check out his words of wisdom! Look forward to comparing insights on creativity coaching in the future.

Thank you Michele - good to meet you. Lucky you, studying with Eric! No, but I do know him online... he's written a guest post for us recently: http://www.writingourwayhome.com/2012/01/river-realising-creative-dreams-5-tips.html

Glad to have inspired some writing... off to read your post now!

    Hi Fiona,

Thanks for inspiring us with the Looking Back, Looking Forward series. It really motivated me to reflect and celebrate the previous writing year. I got inspired to write about how I toned my 'writer's core'.

I see that you are a creativity coach! So am I. Did you happen to study with Eric Maisel?
