In my last post I mentioned the last poem that I've written for the yearbook. Here it is. I also used this poem for one of the school projects that I had to hand in, where we were required to make 'something', such as songs, artwork or a short film that describes our character. Well, you know how a poet responds :) The title for this is 'Flight of the Sparrow'
Down the meadow by the creek
Where green grass thrives and flowers creep
And the arduous blue river runs deep
Dwells a sparrow who swore an oath
To soar and conquer the azure skies
A feat so audacious from where she lies
Where regal swans prance
And nightingale sings
And the hawk glides with all his might
Pray tell, how will the sparrow sustain her flight
To survive the darkness of the night
When the world holds a greater fight?
Though unadorned by exotic feathers
And blessed not with innate grace
She is not bound by a gilded cage
With this knowledge
She finds her courage
And implores the heavens
To wait for her arrival
As she flaps her wings
To triumph over her struggles
Neither raging storms
Nor blustering winds
Can shatter a pledge
That was firmly sworn
Or a fate that was long ago sealed
And thus, the sparrow continues her flight
To endure the ominous trials hidden in the dark
And rejoice in the blissful light
Ascending past the vast skies
To the heavens beyond
Where the seraphs shall welcome her
With full delight
PS: The sparrow is still flapping her wings. She is soaring even higher than before.
