Nothing inspires me more than my work as a speech pathologist, especially hearing a child's first words and knowing that I've helped give him or her the gift of language. In my office is a quote from Katherine Graham: To do what you love and to think that it matters, how can anything be more fun. That sums it up. Maybe someday one of those children I worked with will do something to change the world for the better and I will have had a small part in that.
Thank you for this post Thelma - how poignant, for those of us who are writers, to think back on a time when, for some children, language is such a struggle.
Thanks, Deborah.
