New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Humanities Department seeks a vibrant Director of Composition to supervise the First Year English Program and maintain its pedagogic and technological currency through courses designed for students at all levels of writing and communication proficiency, including those who need additional academic preparation. Reporting to the Chair of the department, essential functions include:
- Oversight of first year composition courses’ responsiveness to contemporary instructional and assessment paradigms.
- Monitoring the success of the curriculum and the performance of its instructors.
- Recommending staff assignments for the HUM Freshman composition courses.
- Coordinating the placement procedures for all first year composition courses and maintaining data on student placement and progress.
- Teaching in the Composition program.
- Ensuring that instructors are adequately prepared.
- Setting standards and establishing criteria for course assessment.
- Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline.
- Familiarity with online content management, placement and instructional technology systems.
- Experience in instruction, administration and advisement.
This is a 12-month administrative position.
