KRLD radio posted this video of Elmo and pop star Kary Perry (Cal-i-fornia Girls...Will Melt Your Popsicle...Fine, Fresh, Fierce... Bikinis on Top). Yes, but does Katy Perry have a little too much on top for Sesame Street? Perry is pictured in a low cut green princess gown that hugs her chest while she sings her Hot N' Cold song to re-worked lyrics. And angles of Elmo's eyes are boobie level. And in the video Perry starts running and her chests is bouncing slightly. To be fair, the dress comes all the way up her back but the gown is just cupping her boobs. So are parents over reacting? (Some left thoughtful comments such as, "You can practically see her t*ts. That's some wonderful children's programming." and "they're gonna have to rename it cleavage avenue" and "my kid wants milk now") Are perverted parents paying closer attention to Katy Perry's chest than their toddlers everwould? And it's not like they won't ever see images of Katy Perry in public. Hello, she's everywhere! And Elmo is a freakin' puppet and he doesn't even wear pants! And Perry's chest isn't huge (sorry, Katy). It's not like Pamela Anderson is out there jumping up and down. Still, Sesame Street producers have opted to pull the segment, "In light of the feedback we’ve received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of 'Sesame Street,' which is aimed at preschoolers. Katy Perry fans will still be able to view the video on YouTube." Boo. I think Sesame Street did the best thing by avoiding the controversy. It's not exactly a controversial show. But whoever thought a boob hugging dress was ever OK for Sesame Street needs their head examined. And maybe the producers need to rethink the quality of their guests. Katy Perry is the chick who got famous for the song, "I Kissed a Girl" (and I liked it). Not exactly Elmo material either. The show has had lots of famous Sesame Street guests including Kim Catrall (who managed not to once talk about sex) and Beyonce. And both of those segments the women wore neutral jeans and a top that covered their chests, shoulders and arms. You can still make out Beyonce's backside though. In case any hypersensitive parents out there want to file an additional complaint.
