As writers, how does a story idea form in your head and become inspiration for a piece of work? For me, there are so many ways, I cannot pinpoint one. For most of my ideas, I would say my real life (or those around me) is the inspiration to a good percent of my ideas. I am or some form of myself is the main character ( I swear I must have split personality to be so many people.) Well, that has been the case with my first, second and third novels. The fourth, my current WIP, I'm actually none of those characters. But last night, inspiration struck again! Actually, it was biting at me for awhile, but I finally took the bait. My sister and I were talking about this movie (which shall remain nameless) and how crappy it was and what could have been done to do it better. Suddenly she goes, you should write the next one (the movie is already part of a franchise now). The thought had been in my mind. In fact, even my kids suggested so. I'm thinking, hmmmmmm.... Why not? Even if I don't attempt to sell it (which heck yeah, I do!) it'll be a fun project. So this crappy movie has inspired me to do a better job at the concept of this story. And why not? I studied film and screenwriting in college, though I have never really done anything in the field, that is what I studied for four long years. I can write a screenplay with my eyes closed, and I'm not bragging, it's just the truth. I wrote my third screenplay in two days, and it is probably my best one ever written. Others I wrote for class or just for fun. So now what? Inspiration has lead me to this, my first screenplay I will have written in over 10 years. Yikes! I better find some of my old screenwriting books. Ready for this next challenge...as soon as I finish my current one. I know I am not planning on starting it till November, but I will do LOTS of research beforehand. And who knows, it may actually find it's way on the big screen.
