BBAW 2010: Day 1 Update and Recap
As Day #1 of the third annual Book Blogger Appreciation Week (BBAW) comes to a close, Florinda (of The 3 R's Blog) provides a look at the award-winning blogs announced today and a recap of the day's other highlights. The first three blogs to win Book Blogger Appreciation Week Awards were announced today! Monday Award Winners: Best Kidlit Blog: There's a Book Also shortlisted for Best New Book Blog, There's a Book is produced by Danielle (@the1stdaughter), a Central California mother of two who counts her children as collaborators on her blog. Believing that "sometimes there's a book that can transform a child's world," Danielle founded There's a Book to share children's love of books as they grow. Best Young-Adult Book Blog: Presenting Lenore An American living and working in Frankfurt, Germany, Lenore (@lenoreva) specializes in young-adult book reviews and author interviews. She has a particular interest in dystopian literature and hosts a month devoted to it twice a year, and has also founded a mentor program for developing international book bloggers. Best Eclectic Book Blog: Devourer of Books This aptly-named blog is produced by Jen, a Chicago-area book blogger who manages to review several books a week while working and being a mom to an active toddler. Not only are her reading interests eclectic - historical fiction is her first love, but she also reviews contemporary literary fiction and the occasional book on parenting - but she frequently reviews audiobooks in addition to print. In other BBAW news, today's Featured Blogging Theme was "New Treasures." For the last couple of years, BBAW has opened with an activity intended to encourage the introduction of bloggers to one another and the sharing of compliments and link love. This year, participants were invited to talk about a new book blog (or two, or a few) that they discovered since BBAW 2009; bloggers who weren't on the scene then were encouraged to share the very first book blog they began following. You'll find a host of links to visit and the personal recommendations of a couple hundred book bloggers at today's theme lead-in post on the BBAW website. Another feature of today's programming at the BBAW site is a "Year in Review" compiled by Raych of books i done read. Raych is well-known among book bloggers for her unique perspective and humor, and in her own characteristic style, she offers a look back at some of events and issues that had book bloggers talking during the last twelve months, including "reading deliberately;" the first Book Blogger Convention (and Armchair BEA, for those who couldn't attend); disclosure, ARCs, and the FTC; book-cover "whitewashing," particularly of YA titles; and other things, some of which became "things." She's included lots of helpful links to fill in the discussion as well - whether this is all news to you or you just want to refresh your memory, it's definitely worth your time to check out this post. Tomorrow: four more awards, plus the popular BBAW Interview Swap!
