When Kamy asked us to chime in on the 10 best books we've read this year, I ran to my shelves to see what I'd recently read and realized that I read a lot this year, but lots of what I read was published earlier than 2009. So here's a few standouts from this year. Not hard at all to come up with a heaping handful of titles by women, all worthy of any "best of 2009" list. And of course, many of them are part of the SheWrites community. 1. Waltzing Jimmy Jackboy, by Jennifer Dinn Korman 2. My River Chronicles, by Jessica DuLong 3. To Love What Is, by Alix Kates Schulman 3. Olive Kitteridge, by Elizabeth Strout 5. The Help, by Kathryn Stockett 6. The Blue Sweater, Jacqueline Novogrotz 7. Hard Time & Nursery Rhymes, by Claudia Trupp Then there's the 2009 titles on my "to read" list: A Gate at the Stairs, by Lorrie Moore The Year of the Flood, by Margaret Atwood The Possibility of Everything, by Hope Edelman When Everything Changed, by Gail Collins

I've read a lot this year but not necessarily new. Living in Nanjing, China I don't have easy access . I love mysteries and would recommend any of Donna Leon's including The Girl of His Dreams and/or J A Jance in Damage Control writing about women in law enforcement in Arizona
