I arrived at the Golden Glades bus terminal at 6:22 am, after taking 2 buses to get here, and waited to board the Broward # 18 to Boca Raton, I could also get on the 441 Express, but I was only going as far as Pembroke Road. I was not in a rush, so an express bus was not necessary. Standing here at the terminal this early made me feel real good, there were lots of people going in all directions, and then there were those who were rushing to catch the next Tri-Rail as far as West Palm Beach. People took the train on their way to work all the way to West Palm Beach. I did not know if they came back the same day, but a woman did tell me that she worked 5 days in West Palm Beach and came home on the weekend. Boarding the Tri-Rail at 6:28 am would get me to West Palm Beach at 7.44 am, with enough time to get to work for 8:00 am. Maybe I should give it a try! The feeling at the Golden Glades Terminal was busy and I got that feeling like I would normally get at an airport. People in transit and people waiting to travel. The Grey Hound bus station was across the parking lot from the terminal, so the place was busy with people preparing to travel local, county or out of state. The # 18 Boca Raton rolled up promptly at 6:45 am and we were off to a pleasant ride. This trip is different from other bus trips because I was leaving Miami and going to Broward County for 3 days. This was a steady job which gave me a chance to relax after my usual running up and down. I had a huge bag of groceries, clothing, laptop and books. This was really a vacation for me, because I was going to be a companion to an elderly woman, cook meals, assist her if needed, and remind her to take her medication. Other than that, I watched t.v. in my own room, worked online and went to sleep. She did not like to go out very much, unless it was to a doctor or beauty parlor. She liked to watch t.v. all day and did not care for conversation. It was not my job to take her any where, so I made sure we had plenty good food to eat. I boarded the Broward # 5 bus at 441 & Pembroke Road, and settled down to enjoy this ride. It was 7:25 am and we would arrive at the Pembroke Pines Lake Mall at 8:00 am. The bus was filled with the usual faces going to work, many dropped off along the way and most were going to the Pembroke Pines Lake Mall to transfer to other buses to go a little further. A small group of us women would remain on the bus who worked in Century Village as nurses, companions, housekeepers and trolley drivers. The # 5 Century Village bus was going into Century Village as it's final destination. We had to get security clearance before we could enter the compound. Century Village is an active 55+ community for seniors who want to retire to a place where all the women and men had one thing in common, growing older and working hard to retain and maintain physically what they had worked very hard to achieve over the years, their integrity. Century Village in Pembroke Pines, on Flamingo Road, I would recommend to anyone who lived alone, had no children, did not drive or wanted to feel safe and secure in their golden years. This place had everything to make their residents feel at home, their amenities were extensive and the grounds were beautifully kept, there were 7 trolley buses to take you to the apartments, which came by every 30 minutes, from 8:30 am to 11:00 pm, and one to take you food and Rx shopping off the property. I laughed just thinking about it, this place was to die for, I had my eye on this place for when that time came. Wow! we pulled up promply at 8:20 am at the Club House. Welcome to Century Village.
