I'm really looking forward to Spike Jones' film version of Where the Wild Things Are, and I just pre-ordered McSweeney's faux fur covered edition of Dave Eggers' adaptation (he co-wrote the script with the director, based on the original story by Maurice Sendak). Who wouldn't want this fun object on the shelf? (The Sendak-approved film and book are coming out in October.)

I also just ordered my friend Beth Wareham's new book, The Power of No. It's out in a couple of weeks. Of course, I would have had to have gotten a copy anyway, but she obviously just said "no" to the lame cover design that plagues the self-help titles, har har. I am always a sucker for these scripty, hand-written things. Also, even though I hate when Beth says no to me, I like the way she says it. And just for fun, I really like to get the odd design or fashion book every once in awhile. Usually I just traipse into the used bookstore for these because they're so expensive, but I have actually been waiting for this sucker, and I'm happy to report that this 512 page paperback is only $25. I'm speaking of course of the photo collection by The Sartorialist, Scott Schuman. If you live in NY, Paris or Milan, you know this street photographer and hope to be blessed by his daily style blog. This book is full of everyday inspiration by everyday beautiful people. Seriously cool.

What are you not covering with a brown paper bag these days?

Love that title, The Power of No! Empowering words, no? And a fun cover, too. Thanks for the tip, Erin. It will go on my fast-growing list of She Writes books to be read asap....
