Last year, here at SheWrites.com, the team decided we wanted to launch She Writes University. We looked around at our amazing members and realized what a huge talent pool we had to draw from. We also know how many She Writers want information about how to get published, and we have access to the kinds of agents and editors who are helpful, who want aspiring authors to succeed.

Onboarding the women we have lined up for She Writes University has been a huge coup for us, and also a glimpse at what’s to come. We want She Writes University to be a service for you, our community, and we welcome ideas for courses, teacher suggestions, and any and all ideas for improvement.

So check out this amazing roster of women and their classes:

—Rebecca Skloot (author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks) on structure

—Aya de Leon (author, slam poet, professor at UC Berkeley, and Director of Poetry for the People) on how to be prolific

—Dani Shapiro (author of Slow Motion, Devotion, and Still Writing) on turning chaos into art

—Asra Q. Nomani (author and former reporter for the Wall Street Journal) on connecting to your passion and your audience

—Natalie Baszile (author of Queen Sugar) on the importance of place in fiction (please note that this is relevant for memoir-writers too)

—Regina Brooks (agent at Serendipity Literary Agency) on the secrets to securing an agent

—Fiona McCrae (Publisher of Graywolf) on why small presses might be the best option for you

These are all amazing and generous experts and I’m excited to be moderating each of these classes. Also, with each class, you have access to the teachers for an hour-long private Facebook Q&A. If you’ve never experienced one of these, they’re pretty amazing. It’s like chatting with your teacher, posting questions in a closed forum that they respond to. I’ve participated in these before and they’re really fun, and surprisingly intimate.

So please join us. Your first class is $69 using the code “FRIENDS.” And if you sign up for all 7 classes, they’re just $50/each. Most of these women never teach online classes. Getting access to them means traveling to a conference or enrolling in an elite program. Here you get a chance to learn from masters of craft and experience, and I’m both honored and excited to be bringing you this programming on behalf of SheWrites.com.

There are lots of ways you can learn your craft, and we are grateful that SheWrites.com is a place you come back to. Let me know if you have questions about She Writes University. I’d love to hear from you.
