Today is Day #1 of Inkwell Editorial's ebook writing tournament; it's an easy, free way to finally commit to getting a book done. In the last tournament, we had 32 participants. Nine (9) of them completed books (a couple even finished writing two!); and four (4) got sales. So this is a highly effective way to stop procrastinating ... and get down to writing.

Following is what's happening so far in this one. Again, today is Day #1. Following is the email I sent out this morning.

Note: You can still join. See the sign-up info on the linked-to post above to get started.

EBOOK WRITING TOURNAMENT: DAY #1

Good morning fellow tourney writers. I hope that you all are well into your writing day. I'm getting ready to get down to it in just a bit. I just wanted to send out this little note first so we're all on the same page.

First, there are 8 of us brave souls on this journey together. We are a small but mighty bunch is the way I like to think of us. :)

This email is going out to all of you (b'ccd), and in just  sec, I'll be sending you individual emails, in case you don't recognize yourself by number below. I wanted you all to see what each person is working on and how many words they've committed to for each day. Just thought it was fun info to share. So here's what we're each up to:

Me (Yuwanda) -- Participant #1: Daily Word count: 3750. Romance Novella (25,000 words). I'm working on the latest in my "A Taste of Tara" series.

FYI, by the end of the tournament, my goal is to finish two of these. I'm 2,000 words into the first one already, which I started last week.

Participant #2: My goal is to write a short non-fiction self-help book on sleep and insomnia.

I'm aiming for at least 15,000 words, which would require an average of 750 words a day from me. [However] I will set my daily goal at a mere 500 words a day since I know there will be some days that I simply don't make the mark, and I don't want to get discouraged by those days.

Participant #3: I am working on my first full romance novel and committing to 1600 words per day :)

Participant #4: Non-fiction- Careers/ Self-Help. Daily Word Count Goal- 1500 since some of it is already written.  Another 10-14 motivated days should get it done.

Participant #5: Goal: 3K words per day. Type of Book: Nonfiction

Participant #6: 3500 daily word. I have a 2-hour daily drive to my place of work and I plan on dictating the majority of the words.  Note: I've asked this participant to clarify what type of book she's working on. I'll share that in the next update.

Participant #7: 1,000 words per day. Prayer/Spirituality.

Participant #8: I have a 10+ year old step outline I want to write. My goal is 3000 words per day. My book is fiction in the drama category. I hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew. Looking forward to it. Thank you! :-)

###

So far, we have 4 confirmed non-fiction and 3 fiction (again, I'm waiting on clarification from one participant on what type of book they're writing). This Saturday, I'll do a weekly roundup post, which will detail the daily reports I receive and put in any questions, concerns and/or observations participants have.

DON'T FORGET ...

FYI, don't forget to email me your daily accomplishments. Of course, we're working on the honor system. If you don't make your goal, tell me why. It happens to all of us. Your limits may help someone else push through theirs. Of course, if you exceed your goal, I want to know what you feel help spur you on. Every piece of info you share about your writing process is designed to help others, so keep that in mind.

I'm still physically exhausted from y 14-hour round-trip to Kingston yesterday to renew my work permit here in Jamaica. I tell ya, the older I get, the more travel takes it out of me. But, I'm getting ready to get to it (after having coffee and staring out at the ocean for a bit to get my inspirational juices flowing).

Have a great first day in this writing tourney, and good luck! :)
