Film Festivals are a great way for writers to flex their writing skills. I have been on many communication boards for Film Festivals. The current one I am serving on is Glendale International Film Festival (September 28th - October 5th) expanded to 8 days and two upscale theaters in beautiful Glendale, CA.
This years line up (2016) has a great mix of socially relevant films that address everything from domestic abuse to the controversy between charter schools vs. public schools.
Cutting edge films like "Havresc: Stand on Courage" about the last historical Armenian Christian village of north Iraq, that fights ISIS every day for the right to exist. To "Killing Ed" a documentary looking at the controversial lack of laws and oversight on charter schools using the worse case the Gulen Movement who operates the largest network of charter schools in the USA while in the center of the Turkish coup.
One film I find fascinating is based on a true story called "Saving Dreams" about a up and coming singer who marries a powerful man. Her husband abuses her while he leads a foundation that is against spousal abuse. Saving Dreams will play Monday, October 3, 2016 at the MGN 5 Star Cinema in Glendale, CA. a preview here:
