From the Pen of Miss Brooke: My fellow writers, greetings. Isn’t it amazing how, when you go searching for one thing you find another, completely different. As many of you already know, I have spent the last few weeks trying to build an online profile to assist my sale of books. I am relatively new to novel writing and, therefore, a largely unknown author so I have been trying to introduce myself to (hopefully) readers of my genre and to the world in general. In this pursuit I have opened a Facebook ‘Author’s Page’ and have been accepting friend requests willy-nilly.

By accepting ‘friends’ who are neither true friends nor family, I find I have entered this world of FB espionage and have received some intriguing messages. No proposals of marriage yet but, I’m thinking, I have discovered the pick-up line de jour. Yesterday I got messages from two separate men, both of whom live in the USA, both of whom work for the US Army, though neither of whom speak particularly good English, and both of whom are currently working on Peace-Keeping Missions in the third world! My heroes! I laughed out loud when I read the same message for a second time. Were these dudes for real?

Selling books can be hard work and good fun and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I don’t know whether Maggie Brooke’s online profile will, in any way, assist the sale of my book. I don’t know whether I will end up ‘friending’ a terrorist or sexual predator on my Facebook or Twitter accounts but I do know that this process, endeavour, whatever you want to call it, is keeping my world wide open and taking me places I never dreamed of. Til next time, keep on writing. Miss Brooke.
