Synopsis

Rediscover the value of the endangered art of writing letters. In this hurried life, we dash off our rapid-fire communication via instant texts, emails, and phone calls. Letters slow down time and give people the space to say what they really want to say to the people on our minds or in our hearts. We will take the time to reflect and carefully choose the words that resonate with what we want, and need, to say about the relationships that have given our lives meaning.

Class Description

This 4-week course will focus on writing letters of gratitude, appreciation, forgiveness, and lessons learned. You will receive a weekly correspondence regarding each of the topics and writing prompts to help you write your legacy of letters. You are encouraged to post your letters to the group, but doing so is always a personal choice.

At the end of this class, students will be able to:

  • Express feelings of gratitude and appreciation in letters to people and institutions that have shaped us,
  • Heal old wounds through forgiveness and through letting go of old resentments, and
  • Compose letters that describe our enduring values based on the lessons we've learned from our life journeys.
