With over 700 million users as of April 2017, Instagram is breaking the internet! The social networking app has become a cynosure for both marketers and celebrities. So how should you use Instagram to maximize your gains? Well, a more important question is- what blunders you should avoid to make sure the platform doesn’t prove to be a marketing failure.

There are a few websites where you can buy real Instagram followers but in order to make sure you retain them, here is a list of things you should avoid doing:

  • Uploading bad quality photos: Whether you are an aspiring celebrity or a start-up company owner, uploading bad-quality photo can create a bad impression of you. This can instantly drop the number of followers you have.
  • Posting too many photos/videos: So what if you’re day was one filled with fun activities? Posting too many photos/videos can affect your publicity campaign negatively. As a general rule, do not upload more than 4 posts per day. If you want to post similar stuff, just go with the multiple uploads feature.
  • Over branding is never good: Post stuff that people would like to see. Staunchly promotion will have negative repercussions on your publicity. Make sure the branding is subtle and not frequent. If it’s a company, you should post informative content.
  • Making mediocre posts: This is very important. Instagram is not your personal drive where you want to keep photos and videos because you want to keep it as a memory. You might think it is “good enough” to go to your Instagram profile but no, just avoid it. You can ask one of your friends who can have a neutral perception on this.
  • Unnecessary use of hashtags: Your hashtags should be relevant to your post. Always use the hashtags wisely after a proper research. Irrelevant and absurd hashtags can make you look desperate which you would never want. If you use hashtags properly there’s a good chance that it will feature on the search tab.
  • Posting stuff that doesn’t go well with you: Don’t post content that doesn’t go with your style. Choose the content considering whether it complements your style or not. Sometimes people follow you because they like your style and thoughts. Don’t break that.
  • Too few posts: Posting very less content is also not advisable. If you don’t post even a single photo per day, it will mean you’re not active on Instagram. Nobody wants to follow an account which is not active. Every once in a while people go through their “following” list and see what accounts they follow. If they don’t remember your posts, chances are that they will unfollow you.
  • Getting involved in controversial topic: This is one thing that many budding celebrities or small companies do. This is a very big blunder for your publicity needs. You should completely avoid getting involved in anything that is controversial viz. supporting a political party. In this way, you might think you’ve gained a few followers but you will definitely lose more than what you gain.
  • Setting your account to private: If you do this you’re making half of your potential followers go away right from your profile page. People will only follow an account which is visible. If they can’t see your post they might just like your post but ignore following your account.

These are the few things that can be easily avoided. Do not let these blunders come in your way. There are a few websites like Dumbu which allows you to rapidly gain Instagram followers. These can also help you to get quick publicity.
