"Make allowances for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remeber, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others." (NLT)

Today has been a day filled with tension and overstimulation. My toddler wants nothing more than all of my attention and free range of the entire house. My husband's task-oriented personality is rubbing me the wrong way. I'm about to explode. Of course, today's verse is about tolerance and forgiveness.

To paraphrase, this is what I see,  "Extend grace to anyone who gets under your skin or wrongs you. Didn't the Lord overlook all of your faults? He died for you, even when you were far away from Him."

Clearly, I am feeling offended. Thoughts of irritation bolt across my mind. "Don't they know I would really like to shower today?", "How dare they talk to me like that.",  "How many times do I need to repeat myself?".  Have I made "allowances" for their "faults"? No. The longer the day goes on the closer I get to the edge. I can't take much more. Why do I run out of patience so quickly with the two I love most?

Oh, to think of the grace and forgiveness given to me. I am amazed by the extravagant love Jesus has for me. In the face of perfection, I am a hot mess. Yet, He is infinitely patient with me, His family. So, here I am, convicted at the feet of Jesus.

Lord, your mercy truly is new every day. If it were not I would be lost. Help me to love like you love me. I want to forgive as you forgave me. Show me how to be patient like you; I know I must drive you crazy. Thank you, Jesus, for showering my faults with grace. Holy Spirit, convict me live out this verse better each day, especially to my family. I want to lead by example and what better way than to have calm in the storms. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.

Love,

Amanda
