Writing

I work for more than eight hours a day.

Which is totally fine since the pay is really good, which in turn allows me to do the things I want. I get to travel because of it, I get to buy things (shop), and I get to secure a tiny fortune for the future. I totally push myself to the limit when it comes to work.

So it really is no surprise that at the end of the day I get really excited to finally sit back and remove the freaking bra  staps that’s been digging into my shoulder. I know, I know, I should adjust from time to time, but it really is a pain right? Especially in a humid day and it starts to really burn.. The satisfaction of finally unstrapping is orgasmic.

Now, how to relate that to writing.

Simple really, as writers we experience struggles. It is not always smooth sailing, especially when it’s your first time (remember the first time you buy your first pair? Yeah same feeling when you write). You have to face each struggles, every ounce of discomfort, and every itch before you get to the point when you feel that whatever you are writing is good.

It’s hard when the “straps” are there. It feels like all the words you write gets thrown out because they aren’t any good. It hurts to feel that whatever you were writing wasn’t good enough. I definitely experienced hardships when I started writing. I felt disconnected. I blurted out words that doesn’t make sense.

I wrote and wrote and wrote some more before I became comfortable enough with my own voice. The straps finally were taken off. A certain author once said that you have to continue to write, even if it is garbage, because someday all the garbage words will be flushed out and the good ones will eventuallu come out.

So do not fret, fellow writers, the straps will eventually be taken off, you’ll eventually find the right fit as long as you keep on writing.

Oh I love this metaphor! This was very encouraging. I feel like I've been wearing the wrong sized bra for years (itching to write but feeling stifled). Now, I've finally been correctly fitted and the words are pouring out good, bad, and the ugly. They are probably mostly ugly (haha)! However, thank you for reminding me to just keep at it this time. I'll get some gold eventually (as long as I've reached my level).

That what I was thinking. Writers need support and I thought bra straps are a great way ro express this.

  • Sometimes writing involves a lot of support: a routine, a fixed goal, following an idea that has haunted us for years, the people who believe in us; sometimes is just saying what comes from your chest, the messy «aaah» of relief vs. gravity. Bra straps are a great metaphor. :)
