Mars InSight Lander touched down yesterday on Mars surface, November 26, 2018. InSight's mission is to explore Mars' interior. Believe it or not, scientists know little of Mars' interior. Mars is often prominently featured in fiction. Most recently, The Martian by Andy Weir was a best-selling novel and top grossing movie. Philip Dick, Robert Heinlein, Edgar Rice Burroughs and many others have written imaginative works  on the red planet.

Though Mars looms large in the imagination, scientists are only beginning to understand Mars' mysteries. Landers have only touched down on Mars' surface seven times.  This time, the lander will not only collect surface samples but will drill down deep into the Martian rock. For the first time, seismic records will be taken with use of SEIS instruments. SEIS Instruments that measure Marsquakes will tell scientists about the interior of the rocky planet. With this information, scientists could glean clues about Mars' formation and the formation of all rocky planets.
