Quest to the Unknown

Barely a year and a half ago the first part in the Jessie Golden Earth Series was published. Dutch author Annelies George was thrilled when the book reached the international #1 bestselling status, beating for a brief moment a very popular book in the Harry Potter series.

Quest to the Unknown is the first book in a five-part saga. The main characters of the series are introduced in part one. The story kicks off when the heroine, a Dutch journalist named Jessie Golden, finds a manuscript with some interesting information.  Along the way she gets deeply involved with the two main characters mentioned in the manuscript, whose lives are more linked to hers than she ever could imagine. At the same time she investigates the father of her fiancé, who seems to have ties with the murky world of the mob. A dangerous research starts with her fiancé’s best friend and business partner, ending with a devastating attack.

“In the last chapter an unexpected twist to the story is revealed,” Annelies explains. “The question, however, remains: is all still what it seems to be?”

The story itself is a mix of fiction and inspiration of real life events. The author likes to intertwine both elements into her story.

“It captures the imagination,” she says.

For her research she interviewed some mediums and attended paranormal gatherings.

“At any given moment, my spiritual journey showed many parallels with Jessie’s,” she laughs, adding that she was a bit amazed that most of the psychics she encountered all seemed to lead a difficult, unusual, painful life.

Quest to the Unknown was rated five stars by US Book Views, Artisan Books and Chicklit Café, among other reviews.  The second part in the series, Darkness and Light, was recently published.

Annelies George was born on 4 August, 1964 in Bussum, After the gymnasium, she followed a one-year course as an international secretary in Amsterdam. Immediately afterward she started to work for a law firm, studying finance, management and law during the evening hours with the goal of becoming a lawyer herself. A move to a different town brought her into the fast IT world, where she was employed by GE Capital, marking the start of a successful career in the international IT Finance world. Due to the intensity of the job and long working hours, she abandoned her plans for a law degree. At the age of 30, she was appointed to Benelux managing director of a US based lease company, a rare phenomenon at the time, since few women were holding similar positions in the specific branch in the Netherlands.
