My very first blog post on she writes.
Contributor

I haven't been blogging here mostly because I have four other blogs and they really take up most of my blogging time. I also manage and am one of the administrators for the Louisville Bed and Breakfast Blog. So you see, I'm not new to this blogging thing. In fact I really love it. It's a great way to focus, to work out things that have been bothering me, and to try to make sense of all the many ideas running around in my head.

I've decided I am going to blog here as often as possible. I'd like to say every day, but I'm not sure I could hold myself to that promise. I do write every day, but with several online magazines to write for and a memoir to to work on there isn't much time for my own personal blogging. And, that is what I consider this to be. I want it to be a place where I can put down on my page all the things that are swirling around in my head at the time and not have to worry about whether or not it will make sense to anyone else.

Right now I have sort of a bad headache. I say "sort of" because I am a headache sufferer and have been since I was 21, when I  had my first Migraine. The headache I have now is nowhere near what I would call a full blown, full on migraine or bad tension or sinus headache. No, this is more like a dull ache caused by the stress and being tired from working in my bed and breakfast over the week-end. We had a house full of guests, all with special dietary needs. Don't get me wrong, I love cooking breakfast. And cooking breakfast for people who are on special diets is a challenge to me. I really like doing it...but it takes a lot of thought and is very time and work intensive. Tomorrow I will write more about the kind of diets I was dealing with, how I approached them, and what I ended up cooking for each.

Michael Ann, I am naturally a very empathic person; although, I try hard not to become emotionally involved in those kinds of issues, that way I am free to perform what is required of me when I have guests who need special attention. I actually learned that from teaching school. I was a HS teacher for 25 years in Chicago, and made the mistake of getting emotionally involved in the lives of a couple of my students. It was a hard lesson to learn (because I am actually a very emotional person) but I had to learn to distance for everyone's sake.

Brenda, Since I own a bed and breakfast in Louisville, the organization came to me because they knew I was aware of events, etc going on in and around the area that would be of interest to visitors coming into the city.

Thelma, I don't quite understand what you mean. I'll just take a guess: Go to your own page and click on "my blog" . A huge window will come up. Click on "add" and write your post in the box. Follow the prompts, then click on publish post at the end.

Carol, if you are fiercely interested in one or the other topics you mentioned, you'll be able to do it. I don't know how long you've been blogging, but the longer you do it, the easier it gets. Don't forget to utilize links, videos, guest bloggers, book and article reviews, etc. as ways to cut down on the amount of copy you have to come up with. And it's not necessary to post every day. IMO, politics is probably the topic that would generate the most interest and may be easier to do..cause it operates across the board in just about everything.

You do have your hands full with all your blogs + the B&B Nancy! I have a hard enough time keeping up with one (yet I am seriously thinking of doing one with a specific focus - politics maybe or religion... :) I had not even though of trying to use the space here as well, but I think it's a great idea.

Nancy, how do you work out blogging on She Writes as opposed to your own blog? I'd appreciate some help because I have an announcement I'd like to make to other She Writers via this blog. Thanks,

I'm brand new here and wrote my first post today. I am in the midst of a divorce, and trying to find ways to make money with my writing. How do you get gigs like writing for blogs such as the one you do at the B&B?

I look forward to following you here :-) I think dealing with different dietary need would be kind of a pain.  I don't have a lot of empathy for people with issues like that and i don't know why.
