If I could line up all my unfinished stories, I could carpet my whole 2 story house, plus the basement! Yes, it’s that deep. I don’t know if this is a good habit or bad habit. I have all these ideas in my head, and I just start writing. Sometimes I finish it, sometimes I don’t. If I had more time (like writing as my main job) I’d probably have started even more ideas. I have that many festering in my head. I jot down ideas in a notepad I carry around, on little stickys, from clipped pictures or articles that give me ideas, or on anything available when it strikes! I have a file folder full of ideas I would like to someday write. Will I ever get to finish any of these? Some. Many things happen that make me leave a story idea in the midst of writing it. That old dreaded writer’s block—though I never use this excuse. The story has not properly formed in my head—maybe I have a beginning and middle, or beginning and end, but something is lacking to get it all tied up. I have even written the whole thing and it falls well below the word count minimum, which means, not enough story to tell. I also have screenplays unfinished, not just novels. Sometimes I want to skip the novel or screenplay and write the sequel already! WHAT? Craziness. I think a good portion of my stories have a sequel in the making. I’ve done that with hmmm, let me see, one novel that was more like an epic (500+ pages), and I guess I still was not done, so I started a sequel. And one of my screenplays followed 3 female college students their first year in college, and I had to tell the story about their second year, right!! In these two cases, both original novels were complete before I started their unfinished sequels. So my focus needs to be, completing some of these works and getting it into the right hands. Doh! If I sold everything I have COMPLETED, I could fill a couple of shelves in a bookcase. Hmmm, okay, back to writing I go.

LOL! I'm laughing at the bags and folders statement. I WAS like that before college, now I have it somewhat organized in file cabinets. My goal is to finish everything when I can stay at home and do nothing but write. I wish all my really old work was good. I really can't say that for my pre-college ramblings. Great story ideas, but the crap that came out of my mouth, geesh!

OMG Kimberly, you're me and I'm you. I have folders, bags, and notebooks that are tearing at the seams from all the short stories, songs, novels, screenplays I've started and never finished. I am notorious for starting a project and not finishing it. The only positive thing for me is that when I go back to some of the stuff I've written years back, it's good and proves to me that THIS is what I should be pursuing. It helps me not to doubt myself nor my talent.
