So you want to get to know your characters a little better.

Do you have characters that seem to be missing something? Can't really put your finger on it? Here are some questions you can ask your characters to help you get to know them. Some may be more applicable than others, and that's okay. For a fun little exercise, try to answer these Qs from the perspective of your character!

  1. What is your goal or motive?
  2. What is your biggest fear?
  3. Who do you dislike the most?
  4. How would you describe yourself?
  5. Where were you born?
  6. What was the greatest thing you lost?
  7. What is one of your favourite memories?
  8. How do you define success?
  9. Do you like your job?
  10. Growing up, what was your dream job/life?
  11. What are you most talented at?
  12. Who do you like the most?
  13. Is tradition an important part of your life?
  14. Do you feel alienated within your community?
  15. Do you have political affiliations?
  16. Are you religious?
  17. What is the biggest regret you have?
  18. If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?
  19. Have you ever had serious medical problems?
  20. How would you characterize your relationship with your family?

Hope these give you a little more to think about when it comes to developing a strong, well-rounded character! They may even show you the areas that require some character development and help you think about a good arc for that character.

Share a little something about your characters with me if you get the chance!
