From what I've read on blogs and in other places, (namely an online critique group) the consensus is that if you have great sales from a self-published book, it won't hurt your chances of getting a traditional publishing deal. But they haven't talked much about awards, grants, or fellowships. I wonder, though, why it would affect those? Would traditionally publishing affect them? Some do require that the applicant be unpublished, and those would make an author ineligible, wouldn't they, whether traditionally or self-published?
