How Do You Transition from Free Blogging to Paid?
Posted by
This is becoming a big issue with me lately--I've been asked by 3 really great websites I respect (all national) to either allow my posts to be republished (I own the material), or to be a guest writer. I do this because I'm a fairly new blogger and it brings me exposure and added readership. However: it's starting to irk me a bit that these websites that have money coming in from advertising and sponsorships are getting loads of quality writing without offering their "stable" of bloggers anything. Does anyone feel the same way? How do you move to the point of becoming a paid blogger? What is the best way to transition from blogging for free, to being a paid?

  • My response to this is to tell them you've changed your policy, and start charging. From what I've heard, the average pay for a contributing blogger is around 250 dollars per post (I'm assuming an average post is about 500 words). Or shop around for blogs that pay and start pitching to them.
